Downsizing, or getting smaller

I’ve been playing with designs again.  This time smaller and simpler seem to be the themes.  The simplest book of all, except for the scroll, is just some paper fastened together. This lacks durability and form so a protective cover needs to be added.  If the cover is just heavier paper then the pages and the cover can easily be stitched together making a simple notepad or jotter. Since I happen to have lots of pretty heavy weight paper on hand, it’s easy.  And all the better since the heavy paper is too heavy for use in traditional books.

Here’s the result:

After making the large portfolios and medium size notepads, I decided to complete the series with a mini-notepad, just right for a pocket. These are very small: just 3″ x4″ to fit a memo pad.

I’m hoping these will make great little gifts for the holidays.  They are fun to make and don’t take nearly as much time and effort as the larger varieties.  Another plus is that I get to play with lots of combinations of papers.

Here’s the whole week’s production.

Hi Nancy, I was looking on your etsy site for the little notebooks you show here, and couldn’t find them. Have you sold them all or just not listed yet?

    • Susie,
I haven’t gotten around to listing them yet. Every time I try to make a batch for Etsy, the Arts Center needs more because they are sold out!
If I can possibly do it, I’m going to try to make more between Thanksgiving and Christmas for Etsy.
Thanks for asking. I hope you are having a great week.

      Nancy

I love looking at all your projects and all the things you do and your creativity…. and your writing. Hope this finds you well.

I make note cards with my marbling and I piece marbled designs together to create scenes… or I will create large marbled sheets and then cut it into smaller sections and add a piece to the front of blank note card and will often take the envelopes and marble the 1 inch high strip at the bottom of the envelope… in the same matching marbled color as the card face or I’ll marble just the flap of the envelope. .. using the same color and Design

I have never made a book when you talk about heavyweight paper can you give me some idea of how heavy it? is is it 80 lb is it.. 100 lb?more?
And what is the best front and back for the book? I have been recently using. A white glue that is archival… PVA. Would that be okay to use in book making?… my alternate is rubber cement but it’s really strong and not good to breathe much. I have such Joy reading your blogs.. Thank You. Conda
